ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING OUTCOMES GAINED THROUGH ADULTS’ NON-FORMAL EDUCATION AND RECOGNITION OF COMPETENCES (Mykolas Romeris University)

Activities of the project ÒAssessment and recognition of non-formal and informal learning at university studiesÓ, coordinated by MRU in 2006-2008, included developing handbooks and guide books on validation of informal/non-formal learning; creating the theoretical model of the system of assessment and recognition of non-formal and informal learning for university studies that was evaluated and approved by international experts, and pilot test of one of the assessment models Ð E-portfolio.
In 2008, having no additional funding MRU introduced validation, i.e. adopted the necessary institutional legal acts introduced a procedure for assessment and recognition of non-formally and informally gained competences and started the process: learning outcome of the first candidates were assessed and competences recognized.
Who is eligible to apply to participate in the procedure of assessment of learning outcomes gained through adults’ non-formal education and recognition of competences?
Adults having no university degree in the area in which they have work experience of not less than 3-5 years;
Adults who have a university degree, but whose work experience of not less than 3-5 years is in the area for which they do not have formal qualifications;
Adults who have dropped out from university studies and are willing to complete studies;
Adults who are currently unemployed and are either registered or not registered in the local labour exchange offices;
Students and / or associate students of University, who are corresponding to the above mentioned 1st or 2nd points.
II. University will assess learning outcomes acquired:
in a work-based environment;
in a non-paid job environment or through voluntary activities;
through self-directed study;
in a non-formal learning environment in Lithuania and abroad (workshops, seminars, etc.);
through leisure activities.
III. Requirements for Candidates:
To have completed secondary education;
To have work experience of not less than 3-5 years in the area from which a candidate seeks recognize of study credits;
To provide evidence of one’s learning outcomes proving that they are equivalent to the learning outcomes for which study subject (s) learning outcomes are awarded.
