N‡rodn’ soustava kvalifikac’ (National Register of Qualifications)

The National Register of Qualifications (N‡rodn’ soustava kvalifikac’ – NSK) is a public register of complete and partial professional qualifications existing on the labour market in the Czech Republic and their assessment standards. It is a continuously built, state-supported register which can be used by citizens and employers. It allows candidates to obtain a nationally recognized certificate of their professional qualifications gained in non-formal education. The register has been developed within two projects. The first was made as a project of the Ministry of Education, Youth and
Sports in 2005-2008. In 2009 a new project started and was implemented by the National Institute for Education and is also partially funded by the ESF. The development of the framework
and the register for vocational qualifications can be seen as a key instrument in the national strategy for lifelong learning.
Part of the NSK is a system of qualification levels, whose eight levels correspond to the eight levels of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), so it enables the comparison of
qualifications recognized in the Czech Republic with qualifications recognized in other European countries. Each qualification has its qualification standard and validation standard. The qualification standard tells what the candidate needs to know, i.e. what knowledge and skills he/she needs to have. The validation (recognition) standard tells how these knowledge/skills will be tested. Users can also find requirements for candidates – education, health eligibility requirements, or other necessary requirements for admission to the exam.
